BFIO: Green Shake #1

27 Oct

Beauty From the Inside Out.

I love fruits and veggies, but I never seem get enough of them, [NIH basic daily requirement: 1.5 cups fruit, 2.5 cups veg for inactive women] because my eating habits are so random.   Some days I will only have tea for  breakfast, and on other days I’ll prepare a mini-buffet.  On my good days, I like to make green shakes.  By green shakes, I simply mean a blended shake with vegetables.  I have quite a few recipes that I’ve picked up over the years, and I’ll share with you my favorites over posts to come.

Shakes are quick and easy to make, all you need is a blender and a few ingredients.

Easy Chocolate shake

  • 1 c. Tempt chocolate hemp milk
  • 2 tbsp Navitas raw Cacao powder
  • 1/2 banana [you can use a whole banana or freeze the other half]
  • 1 tbsp Spirulina powder [or any green powder, I also use VS' Bio Greens]
  • 1 – 2 tsp of your favorite natural sweetener [I didn't use one because my milk was sweetened]
  • 1 tsp Chia Seeds *

Blend and drink.

*I add chia seeds to everything; this is a personal preference, they do have a nutty flavor.  I did not use the figs pictured.

It's green!

Hemp Milk – Contains Omega-3 and Omega-6 fatty acids, which, when used in balance, reduce the risk of heart disease and are important for cognitive functions.  Folic acid, B-12, Calcium, Vitamins, A, D and E.  Phosphorus, which is present in 85% of your body and build, grow and repair your cells and tissue.  B-2, Iron, Magnesium and more.

Keep in mind that Tempt Hemp Milk brand is the only brand that I can find in my local stores, it does contain Tricalcium Phosphate [which is used in many foods to add calcium and/or to make it smooth.]  You can make your own hemp milk from hemp seeds, there are plenty of recipes on the internet.

Ingredients:  Hemp Nut Base (Filtered Water, Hemp Nut [Shelled Hemp Seed]), Organic Evaporated Cane Juice, Cocoa (Processed With Alkali), Natural Flavors, Tricalcium Phosphate, Carrageenan, Sea Salt, Vitamin A Palmitate, Vitamin D2, Riboflavin, Vitamin B12.

Purchase Tempt.

Cacao Powder – Made from the cacao bean, raw cacao powder has up to four times the antioxidants than have been found in green tea.  It contains, sulfur, which is fantastic for your hair and nails, magnesium and oleic acid.  And, it tastes like chocolate!

Ingredients:  Organic Raw Cacao

Purchase Navitas.

Please consult your physician before purchasing any vitamin supplements or powders.

Quick Pic – China Glaze Cosmic

20 Oct

From their extensive [permanent] glitters collection.  I would describe this as a black creme base with multi-colored glitter.  It’s very hard to capture on camera, but in person, it looks more like the bottle does in this picture.

The glitter is too chunky and the polish is too thin.  You will have to put on a thick heavy layer of topcoat to make this work.  http://www.chinaglaze.com

Quick Pic – OPI William Tell Me About OPI

13 Oct

OPI’s William Tell Me About OPI is from the 2010 Swiss Collection.  I would describe it as a dark, vampy burgundy creme with a hint of purple.  Don’t mind my pic, I didn’t clean up around the cuticles, as usual. I’m wearing 2 -3 coats.

Haulage: Sugarpill

11 Oct

I’m trying out the full features of WordPress for Blackberry. So far it seems super easy. I wonder if I can adjust the image size from this app? Hmm…

I finally decided to hit “check out” in my Sugarpill shopping bag. I’ve been wanting to try Sugarpill ever since Petrilude [You Tube] was secretly using it in his video tutorials… so that’s about two years or so. I don’t know why it took me so long to make the purchase, but it doesn’t matter, it’s better late than never.

My goodies arrived about 5 business days after I placed the order, which is about right. And yes, I paid for these items myself.

*Any time you see me making a blog post from my cell phone, consider it a big deal for me. LOL* I’ve only just opened the box, so please check back for a review and a FOTD!!

FOTD – Soft Golds

10 Oct

I totally messed up the liner on this one, had to remove some of it with makeup remover and try to cover up what was messed up without having to redo the entire eye.  I wanted a thick line, but not as thick, I’ll be redoing this one.

I used three limited edition eye shadows for this look, but it’s just a typical gold shadow with shimmer, a highlight color, and a brown with golden shimmer.  Most makeup lines make these colors.

NOTD – Zoya Cola

7 Oct

This is my first time trying Zoya polishes.  Hmm… I’ll reserve my judgment for the next polish because I don’t know quite how I feel about the formulation.  I have a few more polishes to try out and I have a couple of Zoya Color Spoons, so there will surely be more purchases made, just because.  At first I found the polish to be thin like Essie nail polish, but the longer I painted, the thicker it became, it was strange.  It also took quite a while to dry, which is unusual.  But, it was humid in my home while I was painting my nails, and humidity can slow down drying time.

Zoya Cola is from Zoya’s Wonderful Nail Polish Collection.  Zoya describes it as a ‘warm brown creme, with a terracotta undertone.’  I would agree.  It’s definitely in the brown AND red family.  I’m wearing 3 layers.

After I try another color from this collection, I will let you know whether or not I really like Zoya.  So far, so good.  I would rate Cola a 3.5 out of 5.

Zoya Nail Polishes retail for: $7 [USD].  You can purchase them here.

FOTD – Shale

7 Oct

Hola ladies,

I’m still shopping my stash, trying not to spend money unnecessarily unless it’s something I really want to try versus my usual mindless spending.  On my lids, I’m wearing MAC Shale, which I haven’t worn since this post.  Probably time to toss it and purchase a replacement.  Bah!

Shale is described as a mauve-plum with a satin finish.  It has just enough shimmer without being obnoxious.  The other ‘colors’ are varying shades and finishes of gray.  Click below for details.

NOTD – China Glaze Flyin’ High

4 Oct

*My camera doesn’t pick up greens that well.  This creme, but China Glaze is a little more aqua than bright blue as shown above.*

China Glaze Flyin’ High is from the 2010 Up and Away collection that came out this past Spring.  It’s more of a summer pedicure color because it’s very bold and bright.   Unless of course, you’re like me and you don’t really care.

I’m wearing two coats.  The lacquer applied very well, dried quickly, and is still, after four days, wearing like a dream.  Abosolutely no chips.
