L’Oreal HiP Cream Eyeliner Review and a Haul

1 Jan

So I decided to spend all of my Christmas money today. I bought facial products [cleansers, scrubs etc.,] nail polishes, blushes and some other stuff that I have been wanting.

I went to Ulta and took advantage of the BOGO on L’Oreal HiP that they have going on until January 12. I bought the HiP Color Truth cream eyeliner in black #905.

20070105_l__oreal-hip-019_2__small.jpegI just had to try it out even though it’s midnight. Let me tell you, I love it. I even like the brush it comes with that everyone seems to hate. I might take back my Japonesque eyeliner brush that I bought on sale tonight too. [It was $11, I think it's normally $13.] It’s super super thin and the bristles are firm but soft. I will think about it. If I scratch my eye up with this loreal brush or the angled brush that I already have, I’ll keep it.

The key to this liner is use a teensy tiny itty bitty amount. I’m serious,–barely touch the pot. I lined both eyes, twice on the top and the outer corner of each eye. Then I used my black NYC pencil, dipped the tip into the pot and lined my water line. Can we say wow?!? Say wow people! WOW! The picture to the right is after I lined both eyes. I did not touch the pot again after the first dip. It began to fade after the 6th time that I swiped my hand.

Here’s the not so good part, it’s $11 (three dollars less the similar liner made by MAC.) And, it’s not waterproof. Not that I plan on crying or working out with it on, I just don’t want racoon eyes, so for now, I will limit it to the upper lid.

So as a review, I like this eyeliner because it’s smooth and black black. I can apply it a very easily, much easier than my liquid liner. This is a keeper.

Can you see where i dipped the brush?

i have the product in the teal color i think.. fab! but i do think the brush was made for this particular creme liner because of the interestingly, thick and super pigmented consistency/texture. man! i’ve gotta get to Ulta. I don’t have one close enough to me, but seeing as though these products are just as expensive as MAC, i like to buy during bogo. i’m about to post on the new HIP and Loreal stuff they’ve brought out if you haven’t seen it yet.

This eyeliner is THE BEST! Since I’ve started wearing it I’ve gotten so many compliments. I agree that the brush needs to be firm in order to apply the liner precisely. I have a brush that I got from Bobbi Brown cosmetics and I used it once to apply the Loreal eyeline but it did not go on the way I liked. The color lasts all day. It’s way better than liquid eyeliner (which always stings my eyelids no matter what brand I tried). I’m staying with LOREAL H.I.P.

    Hi,
I have a HIP in 905 too and I love the color to bits. But I found that it flakes on me!! Leaving tiny bits of liner all over my face. It was suggested to scrape off the top layer that my be too dry and I did, still flakes. Could I have pick up too much?? i pick up and sort of spread on the back of my palm to coat the brush… I really want to love this… perhaps you wet your brush?? Please tell me how to make it work..

Hi, I have a question. I wanted a liquid liner that I could use as stage makeup for dance competitions, meaning I’ll probably be sweating at least a little bit. Should I still get this eyeliner or is there something better you would recommend?

@sandra – The HiP cream liner isn’t waterproof. Maybelline makes a really good waterproof liquid liner that shouldn’t budge at all moisture.

As far as the inside of your eye, it’s harder. You just have to experiment with what works best for you. The two pencil liners that I own that don’t move are Urban Decay 24/7 and Makeup Forever Aqua Eyes. But I don’t wear them while sweating and I haven’t cry-tested them yet.

You want to get a waterproof mascara too. Chanel makes a nice waterproof mascara and Lancome Hypnose is another good one.
